Olot is the capital of the Garrotxa region and head of the Olot judicial party in the province of Girona, Catalonia. It has about 34,000 inhabitants and is located on a plain surrounded by mountain ranges and crossed by the Fluvià river and the Riudaura stream.
It is a city especially known for its natural interest and for being part of the Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone and the municipality is adhered to the European Landscape Network.
In the municipality of Olot there are four volcanoes, the Montolivet, the Montsacopa, (these two recommended visit), the Garrinada and the Bisaroques. The presence of volcanic materials contributes to give pronounced personality to the landscape that surrounds the city.
The surroundings of Olot also keep a rich natural heritage with numerous sources, the Moixina and Deu wetlands (a forest with wetlands), the Fageda d'en Jordà (exceptional in Catalonia and in the Mediterranean climate for being located in a place plane), the volcanoes of Santa Margarita (which has a large circular crater with a chapel in the center) and the Croscat (with a large cut resulting from the extraction of clay that was carried out in this volcano and that allows to observe the layers volcanic interior).
